After the flood in Jakarta - is space/place still relevant?

This morning, i once again came back to home after 1,5 hours riding under the rain on my way to the office.

For any of you who lives in Jakarta must be already know how bad the flood, not only for our family but also for business too.
For example, my office in located in Kelapa Gading North Jakarta. Because the flood is so bad in that area, our office is running less than half its capacity. Bad, very bad...

On the other hand, i enjoy watching Heroes (its a new tv series). One of the main caracter is Hiro, a Japanese worker that has the ability to bend time and space. He can be where ever and when ever he want, snap! just like that.

So what is the connection between this stories?

Maybe nothing.
But it made me wondering. Is place is still relevant these days.?
Do we all have to cross the city for 1 to 2 hours a day for working something that we can do it elsewhere?
Why can we be just like Hiro, where time and space/place are no longer relevant?
We can work anywhere, anytime. There are no space-time limit.
We decide the time. We decide the space/place...

It would be great isnt it?

Thats what im trying to do these day.
And all thanks to the power of the internet.

You can doit also if you want to.
All you have to do is switch you paradigm.

Jakarta's Creative Industry Cluster

Hello all,
Its late and my wife was already sleep.
But I've got to write this before its gone.

Recently, at least among designer, we always heard about something called creative industry.
Many talked about its potential, how this industry can bring competitiveness in today
over crowed business, and even it can bring good fortune and rise a GDP of a country.

Well, i'm not gonna talk about definition this time.
If you still don't know about it, just ask your favorite search engine or visit wikipedia instead.

What i'm going to share is..
I'm thinkin...

I read about some case happened in UK and Singapore.
Basically, it is about try to accommodate this creative industry to become another strong
economic pillar for their country.

More or less the patter are the same.
These country give many young designer and artist an opportunity to realize their idea by giving
them access to producer, marketer, technology and money.

Then i'm thinkin...

Why can we try this in Jakarta?
Im dreaming about a creative ribbon from Kemang, Pondok Indah to Bintaro.
Why this area..well sorry if you live in this area ya
Because this area have the talent, market, lifestyle and money too.

Im dreaming about bunch of creative young people gather around, discussing, designing, producing
lots of great product and services.

Then, if applicable, they can outsource the production to another area.
If they making a bag, maybe they can order it from SUIK in Pulo Gadung or to Bandung.
If they making a shoes, thay can order it from Bogor or something.
If they making a furniture, they can order it from Cirebon, Jepara or else.

Yes, im dreaming about Indonesia having its own idea, design and product.
Not just a maker without the ability to design and creating brand.

Ahh...
Hope somebody read this and wake me from this dream.
So we can work this out together - not just a blog that do nothing :)

Good night everybody

Have a nice dream

Mind Map Sharing

Ever heard about maind mapping?
Here a definition i take from Wikipedia

"Tasks or other items linked to and arranged radially around a central key word or idea. It is used to generate, visualize, structure and classify ideas, and as an aid in study, organization, problem solving, and decision making.

It is an image-centered diagram that represents semantic or other connections between portions of information. By presenting these connections in a radial, non-linear graphical manner, it encourages a brainstorming approach to any given organizational task, eliminating the hurdle of initially establishing an intrinsically appropriate or relevant conceptual framework to work within.

A mind map is similar to a semantic network or cognitive map but there are no formal restrictions on the kinds of links used.

The elements are arranged intuitively according to the importance of the concepts and they are organized into groupings, branches, or areas. The uniform graphic formulation of the semantic structure of information on the method of gathering knowledge, may aid recall of existing memories."

If you want to know more about it just follow this link to wikipedia.

But there is something else im about to tell you.

I have some mind map in my computer.
well most of them are not finished, but i think its still worthed.
I planned to share it with you in the future.

Why?

Ya, wahy? Nothing, i just want to share some of my tought, just like this blog afterall.
I think its better to spread the information, that to keep in myself and theres nothing
going on.

Ok, if you interested, first you should download a freemind and java.
Freemind is an opensource mind manager software, its small, simple and quite powerfull.
Install the Java first before the Freemind.

Freemind Windows | MacOSX
Java Runtime Environtment Windows
